As local experts and a trusted partner for expats in the Netherlands, we’re happy to share some of our favourite summer tips in The Hague and Rotterdam.
Whether you’ve just arrived or have been living here for a while, these activities are a great way to make the most of the sunny season.
A beach day is always a classic! Head to Scheveningen or opt for the more laid-back vibe of Kijkduin. Bring yourself a cooler with some snacks and drinks or go for a more luxurious approach and relax at one of the beach bars. Are you down for some real action?? Book a surf lesson or try the Bungy jump off the pier in Scheveningen for a real adrenaline rush!
Zuiderpark is home to an open-air theatre that comes alive in the summer. Do you love a good concert or a fun night of entertainment? The Zuiderpark Theater offers a diverse program for all ages. Check out their schedule here and you might just experience an unforgettable summer night out!
Biking through nature, it doesn't get much more Dutch than that. Discover Meijenel, the largest connected nature reserve in South Holland. The trails leads through forests, dunes and you'll pass along scenic viewpoints overlooking the sea. Because the area is so vast, there are multiple entry points. The Dunea website provides clear information on where to go.
Rotterdam is buzzing in summer thanks to all the festivals. From North Sea Jazz to delicious food truck events. There's always something happening! Many festivals take place in Museum Park, Kralingse Bos or around the harbor area's. Foodtruck festivals are often family friendly and offer a great day out and about. Explore the city from the water with a ride on an authentic Rotterdam water taxi. Hop off at hotspots like 'Het park', the city center or 'Fenix Food Factory'. The latter is a great place to relax with a drink and a bite, along the Maas river.
Great food and drinks are never far in Rotterdam! In addition to charming terraces throughout the city and along the Maas, you can also go Sky-High. Teds - Op het dak and The Rooftop are both worth visiting while staying in Rotterdam. From May 29th until June 9th, you can also enjoy the Rotterdam Rooftop Days. With a packed program all happening on the city's rooftops. It's a perfect date for a fun summer evening!
